Jordan's Brotherhood slam
Egypt's “military coup”

Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood on Thursday condemned the military coup that has ousted Egypt's Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, calling it a "US-led conspiracy."

"We condemn the military coup against Egypt's first democratically elected and legitimate president," the Brotherhood's shura advisory council said in a statement on its website after what is said was an emergency meeting.

"It was a US-led conspiracy against the Egyptian people and their first democratic experience."

Egypt's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ousted Morsi on Wednesday and declared the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, caretaker president.

"The outcome of the military coup is void. We call on free countries around the world not to recognize it and return to the legitimacy that was approved by the Egyptian people through unprecedented fair elections," said the Islamist party, Jordan's main opposition group.

"What happened will not stop change and it will not be the end of resistance and victory."

Earlier, King Abdullah II and the government congratulated Mansour.

"Jordan supports the will and choice of the great Egyptian people," the king told Mansour in a cable, according to the palace.

It was a US-led conspiracy against the Egyptian people and their first democratic experience.
