Tripoli Sheikh escapes assassination

A Lebanese Sheikh escaped an assassination attempt in the northern city of Tripoli, the National News Agency reported.

 

According to the report, an unknown gunman opened fire on Sheikh Salem al-Rifai on Monday evening as he was exiting the Al-Taqwa mosque.

 

Bullets were shot at him and hit the mosque’s door, but Rafai managed to escape the attack unharmed.

 

Tripoli has been the center of recurrent sectarian violence linked to the troubles in Syria where a violent uprising against President Bashar al-Assad has killed more than 70,000 people.
