Sheikh’s disappearance triggers Beqaa protest

A number of Sheikh Arfan al-Maarabouni’s followers held a protest on Friday in the Beqaa town of Jalala in solidarity with the cleric who has been reportedly kidnapped.

As conflicting reports of Maarabouni’s abduction emerged, Sheikh Youssef al-Qadiri accused the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command of kidnapping the Sheikh from inside Lebanon in coordination with the Syrian regime and later transferring him to Damascus.

Another Sheikh called on the Lebanese government and security forces to shut down the PFLP-GC’s centers in the Beqaa’s Kfar Zabad and Qusaya and block the al-Masnaa international highway on Sunday in the event that Maarabouni is not released.

Meanwhile, during the protest, the Sheikhs supporters assaulted a cameraman working for Al-Jadeed, Hassan al-Jarrah, and broke his camera.
