Sakr commends New TV stand for the truth

Lebanese Future bloc MP Okab Sakr said that local television reports claiming that recordings of his conversations with Syrian rebels had not been altered were a “witness to the truth.”

“New TV has been a witness to the truth and has defended it,” Sakr said in an interview with Future television on Saturday.

Lebanon’s New TV reported on Friday that British company Audio Forensic Services said the tapes revealed by Sakr were not altered in any way.

During his interview, the opposition MP called on President Michel Suleiman to take charge of the case for its implication on Syrian-Lebanese relations.

“This is not a normal falsification case, but this is a case that [affects] Syrian-Lebanese relations and its aim is to stir-up Sunni-Shiite strife in Lebanon.”

Pro-March 8 OTV and Al-Akhbar newspaper had released recordings indicating that Sakr was in contact with Syrian rebels to provide them with military support to overthrow the Syrian regime.

Sakr, however, said in a press conference earlier in December that the recordings of phone calls between him and Syrian rebels published by the pro-March 8 media were “altered,” and revealed the “untampered” ones that showed a brodaer context of the Future bloc MP providing humanitarian aid.

"This is not a normal falsification case, but this is a case that [affects] Syrian-Lebanese relations."
