Kataeb bloc MP Elie Marouni warned against the increasing number of land being sold by Christians to Muslims and by Lebanese to non-Lebanese, especially in the Beqaa region of Zahle.
“This phenomenon should be stopped, and we should find a way to keep the land of the Christians [with Christians] in order to preserve the demographic [balance] and protect Lebanon,” Marouni told the Voice of Lebanon (100.5) radio.
He also voiced his sadness that the regions of Zahle and Central Beqaa “occupy the first rank in land sale.”
“The Kataeb Party had suggested a solution of the issue by establishing a ‘Christian Bank” financed by the church and [Christian] businessmen. This bank can buy lands from those who wish to sell them, and then sell them to [other] Christians,” he added.
