Man shot dead outside Hermel

Unknown assailants opened fire on a pick-up truck traveling on the Hermel-Al-Sharbin road killing Ali Ahmad al-Houjairy on Monday, amid reports two of his companions had been kidnapped.

 

Lebanon’s state National News Agency that Houjairy was transporting building material in his truck and was accompanied by Syrian workers.

 

Meanwhile, Arsal municipality deputy chief Ahmad al-Fliti told An-Nahar that Houjairy was killed as he was transporting Syrian refugees between Hermel and Akkar.

 

Fliti accused Hezbollah supporters of “ambushing” several vehicles transporting Syrian refugees from Arsal.

 

He added that two of Arsal residents were abducted following the ambush.

 

Fliti’s remarks were echoed by MTV television station, which reported that two people were abducted and one wounded in a shooting targeting a pickup truck transporting Syrian refugees from Arsal to Qobeiat.

 

On Monday, members from Al-Jaafar family intercepted an ambulance for the Lebanese Red Cross carrying 29 people who were injured during clashes in the Syrian town of Al-Qusayr.

 

More than 500,000 Syrians fleeing their country's more than two-year-old conflict have sought refuge in Lebanon, which is becoming increasingly drawn into the Syrian war.
