BEIRUT – Lebanese Armed Forces apprehended four Syrian nationals in a car transporting weapons and ammunition in the Beqaa town of Arsal.

The silver Kia, in which three Syrian men and a Syrian woman were riding, was stopped at the Wadi Hmeid checkpoint in Arsal on Sunday, the National News Agency reported.

The agency added that Kalashnikovs, ammunition, hand grenades, two small devices and military gear were found in the seized car.

On Saturday night, the LAF apprehended three Syrian nationals in the Beqaa border town of Arsal for the possession of light-caliber weapons and communication devices.

The men were crossing the border from Arsal, in the eastern mountains, into the Syrian town of Qara, the NNA explained.

In mid-November, Syrian regime and Hezbollah troops launched an offensive against rebels in Syria’s mountainous Qalamoun region, along the Lebanese border.

Regime troops have seized the Qalamoun towns of Qara and Deir Attiyeh, while in recent days fighting has raged in the rebel-controlled town of Nabak.
