Security forces foil terrorist plot
against Dahiyeh hospitals

BEIRUT - Heightened security measures were taken in the Beirut neighborhood of Dahiyeh by Hezbollah and Lebanese security forces following information regarding a plan to attack three hospitals in the area.

“A terrorist attack was being planned in the last few days to attack three hospitals [in Dahiyeh] at the same time,” a security source told Al-Akhbar newspaper in remarks published Friday.

Another source also reported that the attacks were planned by the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

“The Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch tracked a silver BMW X5 vehicle and two motorbikes that were monitoring the surroundings of the Al-Rasoul al-Azam Hospital, and the security cameras in the hospital showed suspicious movement of these vehicles,” a source told the paper.

“Four people were arrested following the discovery,” he added.

On Thursday evening, Al-Akhbar added that three more people had been arrested in the case and that the detainees are of Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian nationality.
