$4 million ransom paid
for nuns’ release

BEIRUT - An-Nahar newspaper reported that the Maalula nuns were released in exchange for the release of 158 female detainees from regime prisons and a $4 million ransom paid to the Al-Nusra Front.

The paper also reported that the delay in the nuns’ release was due to further conditions imposed by the kidnappers.

“The kidnappers added the names of ten additional prisoners to be released from regime jails,” the paper reported Monday.

The Syrian government stated that only four of these people were being held in its prisons, causing the kidnappers to delay the handover of the nuns to Lebanese General Security.
