There will be no war in
Lebanon, minister says

Lebanese Interior Minister Marwan Charbel reassured in remarks published Sunday that there would be no war in Lebanon.

“What is happening currently in Lebanon is related directly to the events in Syria, but I reassure [you] that things will not get worse and there will be no war,” Charbel told As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.

Charbel also said that the security forces were doing their job in all Lebanese areas.

The troops of the Lebanese Shiite party Hezbollah defeated rebels in Syria’s Al-Qusayr on June 5, weeks after the party’s secretary general Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah promised that Hezbollah would emerge victorious in its fighting alongside the Syrian regime.

Following the conclusion of the battle, Gulf powers have acted to blacklist the Shiite party while Sunni clerics, including Saudi Arabia’s grand mufti and have called on their Sunni brethren to take action against Hezbollah.
