Siniora calls for hour of mourning

After a deadly explosion in Tripoli, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora called for an hour of mourning to be observed on the Thursday at 1 pm.

The explosion, which blew up a bus carrying both civilians and military personnel on Wednesday morning, killing 18 and injuring 40 more, sparked widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum.

Officials said that those responsible for the attack, which occurred one day after the government won a confidence vote in parliament, wanted to destabilize the political situation in Lebanon and undermine the army; however they denied any connection between the attack and President Sleiman’s visit to Syria on the same day.
