Shia clerics ban celebratory gunfire

The offices of Shia clerics Sayyed Ali Khamenei and Sayyed Hussein Fadlallah issued a fatwa banning the shooting of gunfire during ceremonies and occasions.

The official representative of Khamenei, Sheik Mohammed Toufic al-Mekdad told the Lebanese daily As-Safir that shooting gunfire randomly is not acceptable and is banned by the Islamic Sharia law, because it endangers the safety of people.

Sheik Hussein al-Khechen of the office of Sayyed Fadlallah described the activity as a bad and uncivilized way for expression.

“Sayyed Fadlallah has already banned this practice and stressed the need to educate people over dropping this practice,” he added.
