Baath Party MP Assem Qanso said on Monday that Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt has “drifted away” from the principles of his father, Kamal.
Qanso told MTV television that Walid Jumblatt “does not have the right [to freely make use of the principles] of Kamal Jumblatt and the Druze.”
He added that Walid Jumblatt “visited Russia in order to urge [its official] to put pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in order to step down. However, Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was clear [when he said]: ‘We are with Syria and its President.’”
Walid Jumblatt in recent weeks has adopted a harshly critical tone of the Syrian regime and has backed efforts for democracy in the crisis-stricken country.
