Protesters end sit-in in Tripoli

The National News Agency reported on Tuesday that the organizers of the protest in Tripoli’s Al-Nour Square told those taking part in the demonstration that calls for finalizing the issue of Islamist detainees to remove their tents and end the sit-in.

“One tent was left to remind the government to speed up in finalizing the issue,” the report said.

The NNA added that the organizers decided to end the protest “after being informed that Prime Minister Najib Mikati contacted Attorney General Judge Said Mirza and [after the latter] said that the fate of many [Islamist detainees] will be determined within a week.”

The case of Islamist detainees arrested without charges has been one of the core points of recent events in Tripoli, where deadly clashes broke out May 12.
