Number of Syrian protestor deaths rises to 32, rights group reports

The Syrian Human Rights Committee on Wednesday cited sources from Daraa as saying that at least 32 protestors have been killed by security forces in the southern Syrian city and its environs.

The group condemned the use of live ammunition by Syrian security forces and called on the international community to take steps to protect civilians and punish those responsible for their deaths.

Syria has for the past week seen a string of unprecedented protests, centered in the city of Daraa, demanding that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad step down.
