Marouni: Miqati’s cabinet causing political vacuum

Elie Marouni

Kataeb bloc MP Elie Marouni said on Thursday that the presence of the current cabinet had caused a political vacuum to form.

“The March 14 coalition is demanding that the cabinet resigns because it did not accomplish anything; therefore, we are in a state of vacuum,” Marouni said during an interview with Free Lebanon radio.

The MP also said that the cabinet was initially formed to serve the interests of Iran and the Syrian regime.

“We are calling for an impartial cabinet instead of a suspicious one,” he added.

Calls for Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government to quit were spurred by a massive car bombing in East Beirut last month that killed top security official Wissam al-Hassan. The March 14 camp placed responsibility for the attack on Syria and its allies in Lebanon.
