Arab MK in the Israeli Knesset Said Naffah headed a delegation to Cyprus on Monday, which included several Palestinian Druze clergymen, to meet with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt.
Naffah and Jumblatt reportedly discussed the relationship between the Druze in Lebanon and Israel as well as other regional issues.
Following the meeting, Jumblatt said that the formation of a national-unity cabinet in Lebanon “led to stability in the country,” adding that “the time is right to meet with Arab Druze in occupied Palestine.”
He added that statistics provided by Naffah show that 63.6% of those drafted in Israel’s military service are Palestinian Druze.
Jumblatt also said that “Druze are, first and foremost, Arabs.”
Naffah, in turn, said that the Cyprus meeting was held to reinforce the 2001 project aimed at strengthening relations between Druze in Lebanon, occupied Palestine and Syria.
