Iranian Guards, Mahdi Army troops enter Syria’s Druze Mountain

Troops belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and others belonging to the Mahdi Army have entered the Druze Mountain, which is located in South Syria, Al-Jumhuriya newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The report added that the intervention is to be interpreted as “a message to Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt,” who has repeatedly voiced support for the Syrian uprising.

Iran is Syria's closest ally in the region and has supported the regime in Damascus despite international condemnation against the fierce crackdown that has left more than 6,000 people dead.
