Geagea to Nasrallah: The
Syrian regime will fall

The leader of the Lebanese Forces party on Wednesday responded to the speech Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah gave on Tuesday during which he reiterated his party’s support for the Syrian regime.

“No matter how much you supported the Syrian regime, it will fall and you will not be able to stand in the face of the course of history,” Geagea said in a televised speech during the celebration of the LF student’s day.

“The Syrian regime will fall in the end, the same way other regimes fell in the past,” he added.

Geagea also commented on Nasrallah’s statement that his party was defending Lebanese nationals living in Al-Qusayr area.

“Had the regime been strong as you claim and if it will not fall, then why doesn’t it protect Al-Qusayr and the Sayyida Zeinab shrine? Why was it needed for you to intervene?” Geagea asked.

Hezbollah’s leader vowed that “friends” of the Syrian regime would not allow it to fall and that his party would defend Lebanese Shiites residing in Al-Qusayr as well as the Sayyida Zeinab shrine outside Damascus.

“Syria has real friends in the region and across the world that will not let the country fall into the hands of the US, Israel, or takfiris,” Nasrallah said in a televised address Tuesday evening.

Hezbollah has come under criticism for reportedly fighting on the side of the Syrian regime against rebels in the Al-Qusayr area and outside Damascus, with news outlets in the past weeks reporting that a number of party members had been killed in fighting in Syria.

However, Nasrallah denied that large numbers of Hezbollah fighters had been killed in the fighting in Syria.

No matter how much you supported the Syrian regime, it will fall and you will not be able to stand in the face of the course of history.
