Fares says talks on eliminating sectarianism is “folklore rhetoric”

In an interview with NBN television on Friday, Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) MP Marwan Fares said that “talks on eliminating sectarianism from the souls before removing it from [official] records” is “folklore rhetoric,” in reference to Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir speech on Tuesday.

Fares added that Speaker Nabih Berri’s intention behind his proposal to form a national committee to eliminate political sectarianism is in line with the Taif Accord.

He also said the SSNP supports the Ministerial Statement’s political and economic sections, and as such, will grant the cabinet the vote of confidence.

Fares called on parties that do not want the cabinet to be granted the vote of confidence to refrain from participating in the government.
