A source close to the Lebanese Democratic Party said in remarks published on Thursday that party leader MP Talal Arslan might reconsider his decision to resign from the new cabinet.
Arslan’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will have positive effects on the former’s position regarding the cabinet, the source told Kuwaiti Al-Qabs newspaper.
Assad and Arslan met on Wednesday to address the latest developments in Beirut and Damascus.
Arslan resigned after being appointed as a state minister shortly after the cabinet was formed last week.
Mikati announced last week the formation of a new 30-member cabinet in which an alliance led by Hezbollah, which is close to Syria, holds the majority.
