Army arrests suspect
in Beirut explosion

BEIRUT - The Lebanese army arrested a Syrian young man in the Beqaa involved in the explosion that took place Monday night in the Beirut neighborhood of Dahiyeh, the National News Agency reported Wednesday.

Firas Mohammad Kheir Raad, born in 1996, was arrested at the army checkpoint in the Beqaa town of Hrebta for entering Lebanon illegally, and was transferred to the Al-Labwe police station.

Following investigations, it turned out that he came from Majdel Anjar to Arsal in a bid to join militant groups.

An SMS was found on his phone referring to the possibility of him moving to Arsal following the Beirut explosion. He was referred to the Internal Security Forces’ Information branch in Beirut for further investigations into his possible link with the explosion.
