Hezbollah commends
security, military forces

BEIRUT – Lebanese Shiite party Hezbollah condemned the car bomb that went off overnight in a southern Beirut suburb, and lauded the work of security forces that prevented it from reaching its target.

“[We] praise the military and security institutions’ latest achievements… and call on them to continue their blessed efforts in order to foil criminal conspiracies and plots against Lebanon and the Lebanese,” Hezbollah said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

It also labeled the attack “a cowardly act,” and urged Lebanese to “have the highest levels of awareness and responsibility.”

An overnight suicide car bombing in Tayyouneh left a General Security member dead and 12 people injured.

The explosion happened around midnight local time on Tuesday, near an army checkpoint and a cafe where football fans were watching a World Cup match.

We praise the military and security institutions’ latest achievements.
