Heightened security measures
near Ain al-Hilweh

BEIRUT - Security forces imposed strict measures around the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon, following information that a number of fugitives managed to leave the camp, NOW’s correspondent reported.

The Lebanese army also deployed in several streets in Sidon, and took preventive measures amid reports about a suspected car bomb.

Lebanon hosts around 250,000 Palestinian refugees, many living in 12 officially recognized refugee camps.

The Cairo Agreement of 1969 put the camps under control of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and banned Lebanese security forces from entering.
