Judge files new charges against
Abdullah Azzam commander

BEIRUT - Military Court Judge Fadi Sawwan pressed new charges against Jamal Daftadar, a prominent member of the Al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, the National News Agency reported Tuesday.

The judge charged Daftardar with involvement in crimes perpetrated by another Abdullah Azzam Brigades member, Naim Abbas.

He also referred the case to the military prosecution.

The Lebanese Armed Forces arrested Abbas following a period of intense surveillance on Wednesday, February 13.

Under interrogation he revealed the existence several cars rigged with explosives, including a Toyota RAV-4 parked in Beirut’s Tariq al-Jedideh. He also confirmed that he was connected to a number of other bombings.

Daftardar, meanwhile, was apprehended in a raid on the Western Beqaa town of Kamed al-Lawz in mid-January.

The judge charged Daftardar with involvement in crimes perpetrated by another Abdullah Azzam Brigades member, Naim Abbas.
