Army arrests man connected
to Sheikh Omar al-Atrash

BEIRUT - Lebanese army intelligence arrested a man connected to Sunni Sheikh Omar al-Atrash in the western beqaa.

Army intelligence arrested Nawwaf al-Hussein after a raid near the Beqaa towns of Jalala and Chtaura on Saturday, NOW’s correspondent reported.

A military source told NOW that al-Hussein had dealings with al-Atrash and added that he had been arrested recently but was released.

Lebanon's army announced on January 27 that Atrash confessed to forming a terror cell and facilitating the transfer of explosive-rigged vehicles to Beirut.

According to the army, al-Atrash also confessed links with figures in the Al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, ISIS, and the Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, organizations which have claimed responsibility for deadly car bombings in Shiite-populated areas of Lebanon in recent months.
