BEIRUT - Lebanon's military judiciary issued an arrest warrant Wednesday against Abdullah Azzam Brigades commander Jamal Dafterdar, who is charged with belonging to an Al-Qaeda linked group.

Military Investigative Judge Imad Zein interrogated Dafterdar at a military hospital, where he is receiving treatment in the presence of his lawyer, the report added.

Zein adjourned the hearing session of Dafterdar until February 19, and summoned twelve other people charged with the same crime.

Last week, Government Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged Jamal Daftardar and twelve others for belonging to the Al-Qaeda-linked Abdallah al-Azzam Brigades.

The judge accused them of planning to conduct terror acts, forging official documents, and recruiting, training, and transferring people out of the country.

The Lebanese army on January 15 apprehended suspected Abdullah Azzam Brigades official Dafterdar in a dawn raid on the western Beqaa town of Kamed al-Lawz.

Dafterdar is suspected of being linked to Abdullah Azzam Brigades chief Majid al-Majid, who died in a Beirut military hospital on January 4 after he was arrested by Lebanese army intelligence on December 26.

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the November bombings outside Iran’s embassy in southern Beirut that left over 20 people dead.

The attack on the embassy was part of a series of bombings that have targeted Shiite-populated targets since Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah announced in May 2013 that his party was fighting on behalf of the regime of Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war.

The Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon as well as the Islamic State of Iraq have claimed responsibility for a number of the terror attacks.

The judge interrogated Daftardar at the military hospital where he is receiving treatment in the presence of his lawyer.
