BEIRUT - A Palestinian resident of Sidon’s Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp was killed Tuesday in fighting in Syria’s flashpoint Qalamoun region.

“Heavy gunfire was heard in Ain al-Hilweh [to denounce] Mohammad al-Dahoudi’s death in Qalamoun,” Lebanon’s state National News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, the pro-Syrian regime Al-Mayadeen satellite network reported that Dahoudi had been a fighter for the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front.

Fighting has raged in Syria’s Qalamoun region since November 15, sparking an exodus of over 15,000 refugees into Lebanon’s northern Beqaa region.

Politicians and news reports have all warned that fighting in Qalamoun could spark further sectarian tension in Lebanon.
