Franjieh: Beirut attack targets
‘resistance axis’

Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh said that the “resistance axis” was the target of the Beirut suicide bombings that occurred on Tuesday.

“The bombing of the Iranian embassy is a message to the resistance axis,” Franjieh was quoted as saying by the National News Agency during his visit to the Iranian embassy to extend his condolences to the ambassador on Thursday.

“Iran is an ally and supporter of Lebanon.”

The Marada Movement leader also said that regional tensions and sectarianism was “moving from state to state.”

Several political and religious dignitaries have visited the Iranian embassy in recent days to extend their condolences following the twin suicide attacks that targeted the Iranian embassy on Tuesday, killing at least 25 people and injuring 147 others.

The bombings, the responsibility for which was claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, have drawn nation-wide and international condemnation.

Lebanon’s top officials and leaders of the major opposing political parties have denounced the attack, while Iran accused Israel of perpetrating the deadly blasts.
