Siniora condemns Dahiyeh explosion

Future bloc leader MP Fouad Siniora on Saturday condemned the explosion that targeted the Beirut area of Dahiyeh.

“The martyrs that fell in Al-Roueiss are the martyrs of all Lebanon, because they died in a terrorist attack that targeted innocent citizens who live in the area or who were passing by coincidence in an area targeted by the [hands of] terrorism and evil,” Siniora said in a statement.

The former Prime Minister also said that the explosion aimed at stirring strife among Lebanese Muslims.

Siniora also said that “the Lebanese political leaders must follow policies that protect Lebanon and the Lebanese.”

He also reiterated the call for adopting the Baabda Declaration “to protect Lebanon from the evil surrounding it.”

Siniora also called on all the concerned state institutions and the civil society organizations to help the people who were affected by the attack.

A car bomb late Thursday afternoon went off on the main road between the Al-Roueiss and Bir al-Abed areas of Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold of Dahiyeh, leaving 22 people dead and at least 200 injured.

A group of masked men dubbing themselves the “Aisha, Mother of the Believers, Brigades for Foreign Missions” posted a video on YouTube claiming responsibility for the car bomb that hit Beirut’s Dahiyeh earlier in the day as well as the July blast.
