Clan fighting hits Beirut’s Dahiyeh

Fighting renewed Tuesday afternoon between the Zeaiter and Hajoula clans in the Lailaki area of southern Beirut’s Dahiyeh suburbs.

Lebanon’s state National News Agency reported that that residents of Imam Ali Street in Lailaki called on security forces to intervene and end the heavy fighting, with local media reporting that rocket propelled grenade (RPG) rounds were being used in the clashes.

Meanwhile, Future News said that a fire broke out in one of the area’s residences during the clashes between the two Shiite clans.

The NNA reported later in the afternoon that the army intervened in Lailaki and began to pursue the gunmen, while the Red Cross stated that nobody was injured in the fighting.

Fights between the two clans in the area have erupted in each of the last three days.
