British minister: Terrorism
‘has no place’ in Lebanon

Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt said after the explosion that hit a Shiite quarter of Beirut that terrorism should not enjoy a foothold in Lebanon.

“Terrorism and extremism have no place in Lebanon. I call for the Lebanese state to investigate this urgently and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Burt said in a statement late on Thursday.

“I condemn this evening’s bombing in Beirut and extend my thoughts and condolences to those injured and those that have lost friends or family in this senseless attack.”

A car bomb late Thursday afternoon went off on the main road between the Al-Roueiss and Bir al-Abed areas of Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold of Dahiyeh, leaving over 18 people dead and at least 200 injured.

I call for the Lebanese state to investigate this urgently and bring the perpetrators to justice.
