Lebanese Forces
awaiting ministerial statement

BEIRUT - Lebanese Forces MP Fady Karam said his party will not declare its position on Prime Minister Tammam Salam’s new government, which was finally formed today after months of deadlock, until the ministerial statement is announced.

“With our respect for the new ministers, some of whom we have friendships with, we will be defining our position on the political identity of the cabinet based on the ministerial statement not the names of the ministers or the portfolios,” Karam told NOW on Saturday.

“Today we are waiting for the ministerial statement and the policy that will be adopted in order to decide in light of [that policy] how to deal with the new government.”

A new unity cabinet of 24 ministers was formed earlier on Saturday following eleven months of bickering between rival political parties.

All Lebanese parties agreed to participate in the cabinet, except for the Lebanese Forces, which maintained its rejection to sit on the same table with Hezbollah, because of the latter’s engagement in the Syrian war alongside the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Today we are waiting for the ministerial statement and the policy that will be adopted in order to decide in light of [that policy] how to deal with the new government.
